Forest Fire Ecology Walk with Jack Nisbet
5-8 pm, Sunday, May 19th
Jack Nisbet will lead this Forest Fire Ecology Walk from the Iller Creek Trailhead. Jack is a renowned author of books on natural history in the Spokane area. He will describe how forest vegetation in the Iller Creek drainage has responded after the devastating fire in the early 1990s.
Iller Creek is part of Spokane County's Dishman Hills Conservation Area. It is known for its wide variety of forest types, including western hemlock forests along the creek.
We will not go all the way to the Rocks of Sharon. The pace will be slow. Bring water, snacks and weather appropriate clothes.
Parking is crowded at the trailhead, so arrive in time to walk to the trailhead. Plug the address - 9100 E Holman Road - into your navigation system. Turn off Dishman Mica onto Shaffer Rd. In 1+ mi., turn right at 44th Avenue; left on Farr Rd and right on Holman Rd to the trailhead.
