The Washington State Naturalist Program is a year-long program that teaches Washington residents about regional ecosystems and principles of ecology. The goal is for participants to earn their naturalist certification and develop into community educators and stewards for environmental organizations statewide. To become a certified Naturalist through WSU, participants must complete online courses, 20 hours of field learning experiences, and 20 hours of volunteering with a local partner organization.

• Offered through Canvas, the online portion of the program includes 8 peer-reviewed modules on general ecology, ecosystems of Washington, stream ecology, forests, oceans, and more! Online learning runs from mid-October to early March.

• Learn about Washington ecology in the field through WSU organized experiences, local activities, and independently led ventures to complete this 20-hour requirement.

• You will volunteer for 20 hours with Dishman Hills Conservancy to advance environmental stewardship, education, and citizen science in your community.

• • You must live within an easily commutable distance to your partner organization.
