FULL- Lichen Hike

Guided Hike at Stevens Creek with Lichenologist Jessica Allen

Hike distance and difficulty level: 3.3 mi, steep climb. We will meet at the Stevens Creek Trailhead at 9AM.

During this lichen walk we will explore the world of lichens. You will have the opportunity learn a number of common species and we will discuss their importance in local ecosystems.

Jessica Allen is an integrative fungal biologist who studies the rarity in lichens. In her work she integrates field, laboratory and analytical work to address outstanding questions in fungal evolution and conservation. She currently works as an Associate Professor at Eastern Washington University and serves as the co-Chair for the IUCN Lichen Specialist Group. She earned her PhD from The New York Botanical Garden and the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her Post-Doctoral work was conducted at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest Snow and Landscape Research.
