 Astronomy Hike at Glenrose

We will be walking out on the Bluebunch Trail even with some cloud cover.  Plan for cold conditions. We will walk in during dusk and are asked to keep lights out so our eyes can adjust to the low light and better see the stars and sky.  You're welcome to walk back to the parking lot by the light of the full moor or use a light after leaving the group.

Join DHC and Paul Yost of the Spokane Astronomical Society for a fun and educational Astronomy Hike at Glenrose on Saturday, November 16th, 4:00 pm. We will meet at Glenrose Trailhead (3700 S Thierman Rd) at 4:00 pm and hike about 1/2 mile out to a field where we can observe the stars, moon, and comet. We will discuss current astronomical phenomena and talk about constellations, space, and any other astronomy related questions. After about an hour we will hike back to the trailhead. If you need to leave earlier that is ok. If you are unable to attend, please email Ruth Gifford at ED@Dishmanhills.org.e will be walking to the field without lights so we preserve our eyesight for

Dress for the weather and colder temperatures after dark.  Good footwear is recommended. We will have one spotting scope and some pairs of binoculars to share. Brining your own is welcomed.

Enjoy the hike back to the parking lot by the light of a full moon.  You can also bring a headlamp or a flashlight for the hike back to the parking lot.

This hike is easy for most.  Distance is about 1 mile, out and back and gains elevation of only 120 ft. Duration is 60-90 minutes and leaving earlier is ok.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, Nov. 16th
