New Year’s Day Hike
with George Stratman
Open to Members*. This walk will be led by George Stratman, a retired naturalist and outdoor school administrator. George is currently a member of the DHC's Education Committee.
This adventure will involve a one-way walk from the Glenrose Trailhead to Camp Caro in the Spokane Valley. Along the way we will make a handful of stops to appreciate the natural surroundings and to consider the significance of the work done by the Dishman Hills Conservancy to preserve these open spaces.
The hike will begin at the Glenrose Trailhead where we will immediately begin a brief steep incline of about a quarter mile before beginning a long decent toward the Dishman Hills Natural Area and Camp Caro. At the Cliffs Area we will pause for snacks/lunch and to appreciate the view. From the Cliffs, we will descend over rolling terrain for our final 1.5 miles to Camp Caro.
January 1, 2026 (Thursday). 9:00 a.m.- Noon
Meet at the Glenrose Trailhead at 9:00 a.m.
Finish at Camp Caro (Spokane Valley) at approximately Noon
Distance: 5 Miles one way (The hike will start at the Glenrose Trailhead and finish at Camp Caro. Hikers will need to make arrangements to be dropped off at the Glenrose Trailhead and be picked up at Camp Caro.)
Hike Rating: Difficult for some.
Elevation change: Approximately 800 feet all told. The hike will require a sustained descent (with some shorter climbs) along well established trails.
Other Information: Hikers can choose to carpool and leave a car at each trailhead, or make arrangements to be dropped off at the Glenrose Trailhead and picked up at Camp Caro.
This hike will proceed regardless of snow, rain, or sunshine.
